What is PRT?Personal Rapid Transit is an infeasible transportation concept with a 30-year record of controversy and failure. PRTis little more than a stalking horse for the highway construction industry and individuals belonging to anti-rail transit groups.” Plans for a full -scale PRT system have never evolved past fancy computer graphics, online simulations and the occasional test model/prototype. Who Promotes PRT?PRT has been promoted in Minneapolis and in other cities by anti-transit, pro-highway individuals and groups. Wherever there is highway or airport expansion, the PRTistas will be on hand to confuse citizens and public officials about real transportation choices.Is PRT Faster, Better Cheaper Than LRT, Trolleys or Buses?No. PRT only exists only in small scale models and computerized simulations on the internet so there is no real world facts or figures to compare to conventional transit. PRT promoters make up figures based on best-case scenarios.
In 2004, former Minneapolis Councilman Gary Dean Zimmermann, Rep. Mark Olson and then State Senator, now Congresswoman Michele Bachmann conspired to fleece Minnesota taxpayers with a multi-million dollar boondoggle called Personal Rapid Transit (PRT).
